Gainesville VAMC – Upgrate Site for Compliance to VA Barrier-Free Guide

The VA hospital network is under strict criteria to provide ample and sufficient accommodations to their handicapped veterans and VA hospitals, in particular, have a higher number of handicap patients. After a recent audit, the Gainesville VAMC was required to make facility wide exterior changes to bring the facility into compliance with the VA’s’ national guide on disabled patron access. This project provides those required changes and includes: Milling and Paving, Restriping to add Handicap Parking Stalls, Handicap Signage, Concrete Handicap Ramps and Transitions, Handicap Railing, Additional Luminaire Pole Lighting, Additional Walkway and Exterior Building Lighting and New Concrete Flatwork across the site.

This project will require close coordination and careful execution in order to keep the VA operational while Pavement is Milled and Replaced, Striping is blasted and repainted and Concrete at the main entrances is demolished and repoured. At no time can the VA staff or its patrons be inconvenienced throughout this invasive construction project. This facility is also located directly across the street from the University of Florida Hospital which is a major hospital with heavy traffic itself.
